March 1, 2010 - In the news, Muscle Hill bagged 20 of 21 career races, with an average margin victory of 4 lengths. More recently, Muscle Hill was awarded “Horse of the Year” by the U.S. Harness Writers Association, out-performing a good crop of contenders. With $2.45 million, Muscle Hill holds the harness racing record for earnings in one season. The Hambletonian, Breeders Crown, Kentucky Futurity, Canadian Trotting Classic and World Trotting Derby represent some of the venues for his best performances.
Trotter Lucky Hill, another contender, finished 17 of 18 career races with flying colors; while another, Well Said, aced 10 out of 14 career races such as the Little Brown Jug, Meadowlands Pace and the North America Cup.
March 2, 2010 – Despite the fact that it is his first time to race on a dirt track, Lookin At Lucky, having aced 5 out of 6 races on synthetic surfaces under the tutelage of seasoned trainer Bob Baffert, continues to rank first in The Associated Press’ “Top 10 Run to the Roses List” for entrants to the May 1st Kentucky Derby this year. The Kentucky Derby has a left-handed dirt track with 10 furlongs. It is the first leg of the Triple Crown Series.
Baffert has shown signs of interest in terms of entering Lookin At Lucky at the Rebel Stakes in lieu of Santa Anita. The Hall of Famer remains optimistic about this year’s Kentucky Derby results for Lookin At Lucky.
The Associated Press’ “Top 10 Run to the Roses List”
- Lookin At Lucky is looking good at number 1.
- Todd Pletcher’s Eskendereya continues to rank 2nd in The Associated Press’ “Top 10 Run to the Roses List”. The Fountain of Youth Winner’s next start is the dirt track at the Florida Derby.
- Bob Baffert’s Conveyance, is number three on the Top 10 List, having won Southwest dirt track race. Sired by 1998 Santa Anita Derby Winner Indian Charlie, Conveyance’s next start is likely to be the Santa Anita Derby.
- Sam F. Davis winner, Todd Pletcher’s Rule falls at number 4, with horse jockey Jorge Velásquez. Rule’s next start has yet to be announced.
- Another one of Todd Pletcher’s prospects, Discreetly Mine, is number 5 on the list. The thoroughbred’s next start is the dirt track at the Fair Grounds.
- Nick Zito’s Jackson Bend is number 6, having taken 2nd place in this year’s Fountain of Youth.
- Rick Dutrow’s D’Funnybone is 7th on the list. The Hutcheson Winner’s next start has yet to be announced.
- D. Wayne Lukas’ Dublin is eight on the list. Dublin’s next start is the Rebel Stakes.
- Risen Star runner-up, Steve Klesaris’ Tempted to Tapit is 9th on the list. The grey gelding’s next start is the Louisiana Derby.
- New entrant to the list, England-bred Radiohead, falls at number 10 after winning in a 1-mile allowance race at Gulfstream Park, taking the place of Todd Pletcher’s Connemara.
According to the Associated Press, the other horses to watch out for are Caracortado, Connemara, Noble’s Promise, Super Saver, and Vale of York.
